Yoga in the time of Uncertainty
There was no time like this in the past. Globally we are facing an unprecedented condition in human wellness, fighting against the virus COVID-19. It is stressful. It is rare for most of us. Not only do we need face the stress of keeping ourselves and our loved ones safe and healthy from the contagious disease, but also we need to learn how to cope with being isolated from social interaction as we used to enjoy.
Yoga helps us cope with stress
Staying home could be challenging and make people feel confined. Yet, it is a perfect time for us to ground and nourish ourselves. In fact, we have been given the best opportunity to tune inward and hone a relationship with yoga and with ourselves. This is the time yoga can serve us the most for it teaches us how to find ease and peacefulness in uncomfortable situations. It is important to acknowledge that the focus of yoga practice is not about achieving perfectness of those poses. Studies have shown that yoga can help strengthen our health physically and mentally. But how? Meditation is one important tool to calm our brain and to bring clarity to the mind. The physical aspect of yoga or yoga asana facilitates movements in our body, strengthens immune system, and ultimately improves our overall health.

Take your comfortable seat
Sukhasana or Easy Pose is where we seat in a cross-legged position on the ground either with or without supports underneath. Seat up nice and tall with a straight back. Everyone can look different and feel different in their own Sukhasana, and one can have different experiences in this pose during various phases. Breathing is key. While you position yourself in this pose, breathe in and out of your body and bring your awareness to your inner sensation. A regular practice of simply this one pose can bring calmness to the brain and soothe the nervous system. Physically, it helps strengthen our core and back and stretch our knees and ankles. Take 5 minutes of your day to seat in Sukhasana, find your ease pose, and notice any changes in your body and mind.
